Branding with Typeface (Fall 2016)

Project to choose an existing business/brand and redesign their visual identity and create mockups with these new visuals.

Objectives:

"Exploiting graphic opportunities within letterforms; evoking meaning through typographic elements; working with restrained typefaces —and with no external graphic elements—to reach maximum impact; explaining and supporting decisions to communicate a desired intent; attaining an awareness of typography in real-world applications."


Constraints:

  • Any of the following typefaces may be used as a base for the mark: Baskerville, Bembo, Bodoni, Caslon, Garamond, Franklin Gothic, Frutiger, Futura, Gill Sans, Helvetica, Univers.

  • Designed elements include:

    1. Wordmark

    2. Extracted Symbol

    3. Business Card Front & Back (Standard size: 3.5" x 2")

    4. Mobile App icon


Wordmark:

"You will design a wordmark for a company of your choice. The goal of the project will be to express the meaning, identity and tone of an entity only using typography."
